A Peek into my Life – Monday

The ‘Peek into my Life’ blog carnival is hosted by Young Ladies Christian Fellowship. Check it out!
Before I start, let me introduce you to my siblings, so you have some idea who I’m talking about.
There’s Robbie (16), Daniel (13), Emily (11), Matthew (8), Joey (6), Ben (4), and Lydia (2). And I’m Megan, 18.
Mondays for me are usually the busiest day of the week – Robbie and I have our piano lessons that day, and I teach 8 of my students. But since Mom has her surgery tomorrow, I canceled all my lessons for today.
Last evening I ended up going to friends’ house to spend the night – this family has 7 children and they are so much fun to be around. I had a late night playing 4 of the kids in chess, watching a movie (A Little Princess) and talking to Mrs. N until 2 a.m.
I woke up when it was just starting to get light to the 4 year old sitting on the end of my bed. “Did you come in to snuggle me?” I whispered. She surveyed me gravely, retrieved her toy and left the room – guess not.
I fell back asleep until the 6 year old came to wake me up. “Me-gan, it’s almost 9 o’clock. And you said we could play crocodile morning today!”
“We will,” I mumbled with my eyes still closed. “Let me wake up first, ‘kay?”
We ate blueberry muffins for breakfast, and we did play crocodile morning. I had taught the kids the game when I babysat them this summer; it’s a hand-clapping game with a silly ditty:
Crocodile morning crock, crock, crock,
A sinka-sinka, Sinka-sinka-saka, Saka-saka-sinka,
Mo, mo, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8!
I left their house around 10, and took the ‘scenic route’ home. A few dirt roads – just for the fun of it. The fall colors are gorgeous!
I went home, said good morning to everyone and headed upstairs. I checked my e-mail, made my bed (admission #1 – it d
idn’t get made yesterday!), and worked on my Bible memory. Mom called me downstairs, and I worked on chores for about an hour before making lunch – sandwiches. While I was organizing the computer desk, Lydia brought me a book so we sat down and read ‘Guess How Much I Love You’. “I love you to the moon and back Lydia!” I finished. “Moo’ and bak,” she echoed with a giggle.

After I finished eating I practiced piano for about 10 minutes while everyone else was finishing up. I’m currently working on Chopin’s Scherzo in B-flat minor. I’m about halfway through it, and it’s terribly fun.
We all help with meal clean-up, splitting up dishes, counters, table, and floors. We rotate chores every month, so no one gets stuck with all the dishes! This month I’m on table, with help from the younger boys.
I read blogs for a while before changing clothes and getting on the treadmill. I’m still running 3 times a week, in pursuit of the ever-elusive 5K. I’ve been using the Cool Running Program; I’m currently on Week 5, Day 1.
After running, I showered, ate an apple, then sat outside, scribbling notes for my NaNoWriMo novel. Dad came upstairs (his office is in our basement) and asked if I wanted to go to town with him. Mom had a list for the grocery store, and I had a book to mail for Paper Back Swap. I enjoy running errands with Dad.
We also stopped at the health food store, the gas station, and the car wash.
We got home around 4. The boys helped unload the car and we all headed outside. Emily showed me their new fort they had built from hay bales and plywood, and Ben and I kicked a football back and forth for a few minutes, regardless of the fact that neither one of us can kick it straight!
Our pastor pulled in the driveway – he was delivering casseroles from the ladies at church. He read some verses and prayed with us all before he left. I took a pan of potato casserole inside and noticed we’d left most of the groceries on the counter as well. Mom and I worked on cleaning out freezer space for everything, and put a casserole in the oven for dinner.
Before we started on dinner I went outside again to feed my rabbit, Calista.
When I came back inside Dad had gotten out frozen waffles for dinner, so some of us ate the casserole and some of us ate frozen waffles.
After dinner it’s bath time for the little kids – I practiced the Chopin piece a few more times, and sang for a while. The boys gather the trash cans and take them out to the end of the driveway. I walk out with Robbie on the second trip – it’s a perfect night outside, and we joke as we walk back up the driveway.
The whole family gathers in the living room with our Bibles – tonight we read from Luke chapter 11. We all go around the room and pray, everyone especially mentioning Mom’s surgery tomorrow. (My Mom is having surgery to fix a hole in her heart tomorrow morning. It’s an outpatient procedure, which is amazing, but we would still appreciate prayers!)
Hugs and kisses, and the younger 4 are in bed, and the older 4 begin to head in that general direction. Robbie still has some school to finish up, Emily and Daniel will probably read until lights out. I check my facebook page, chat with a friend for a while, and came over here to work on this blog post. I intended to work on a LibriVox project, but ended up playing Phase 10 and eating Grape Nuts with Mom, Daniel, and Matthew, who got up when he saw what we were doing.
And now, ’tis bedtime. Admission #2 – I usually fall asleep with my mp3 player in my ears.
Right now I’m listening to The Shepherd of the Hills.
And so, bloggy world, I bid you ‘goodnight’. I’m looking forward to reading everyone else’s posts on Wednesday!

I keep saying I’m going to run a race, too… I was training up for a half marathon last year when I injured my leg running and haven’t ever quite got myself back in the swing of things!

Sounds like a lovely day. Made me miss the days when I lived at home with my family. Don’t get me wrong, I love being married, but there is something comforting about having sibling around…

How sweet of you to make mention of my blog! I’ve enjoyed reading through yours and will be back for more.
)
I see it as delightfully remarkable how the Lord brings together women of different generations, to share, minister and bless one another.

Oh golly, I’ve no idea what kind of ‘face’ I added but it doesn’t look like what I intended which is a happy face. Looks a bit perturbed instead. Hm.
